Vasileios Papatsiros (VP) is a Professor of Porcine Medicine (Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Thessaly, Greece). He finished his degree and PhD studies in Veterinary Medicine at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (Greece). He received extra training at the University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover (Germany) and he has attended many international seminars and meetings. His research interests involve porcine medicine and reproduction (mainly PRRSV, PCV2, SIV), as well as porcine herd health management and welfare. He also followed short-term training in the Faculty of Veterinary Μedicine of Ghent University (Belgium) and at Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale della Lombardia e dell'Emilia Romagna "Bruno Ubertini" (Italy). VP is a principal investigator in 21 research projects and participated as co-investigator in 22 (2 EU funded, 1 funded by the Ministry of Rural Development and Food and 40 funded by the private sector). He is the author of a) 3 books for porcine medicine (in Greek), b) 2 chapters in books of veterinary medicine (in English) and co-author in 2 others (in English). He has also authored or co-authored 87 referred scientific articles and 102 oral or poster presentations at international and national congresses. He has also participated as an invited speaker or member of a scientific committee in several national and international congresses and swine forums or meetings. VP participates as an expert scientific evaluator in the Greek Accreditation System for Quality Assurance of Pork Meat and in various international projects of the EU (e.g. Horizon 2020, International Bureau of the German Ministry of Education and Science, Russian Federation calls, ERAfrica). He also obtained one patent from his research in pig production. VP is a member of various scientific organizations and committees (e.g. Expert in Scientific Committee for African Swine Fever surveillance program and Avian Influenza surveillance program in Greece, European Association of Porcine Health Management). He is also a member of the editorial board, guest editor and reviewer in international scientific journals. Specialization areas: Porcine Medicine, Porcine Herd Health Management, animal welfare, biosecurity, prophylaxis, metaphylaxis, clinical and field studies.
