Dr Vasileios Papatsiros is Professor and Director of the Department of Clinical Studies in the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Thessaly (UTH), Greece. He was He finished his degree (2001) and PhD studies (2006) in Veterinary Medicine at the School of Veterinary Medicine, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (Greece). He received extra training at the University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover-Foundation TiHo (Germany) and in many international seminars. He has worked as a researcher on projects, as a freelance swine expert veterinarian and veterinary officer in the Directorate General of Veterinary Services of the Greek Ministry of Rural Development and Food. Since 2011, he has been working as an academic staff in the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Thessaly (Greece) and nowadays he is a Professor of Porcine Medicine. He was Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine UTH, and member of the UTH Senate (2020–2025).

He is the author of 3 books on porcine medicine and herd health management (in Greek), 3 chapters in books of veterinary medicine (in English) and co-author of 3 other chapters (in English). He has published as an author and co-author of more than 205 peer-reviewed papers in journals and proceedings of international congresses. He is the principal investigator in 27 research projects (5 funded by national / European Commission resources and 22 by the private sector), and he has participated as a co-investigator in 23.

He is elected member of Hellenic Agricultural Academy, founding member of ‘’Hellenic Society of Pharmacogenomics and Personalized Diagnosis and Therapy’’, an active member of various scientific expert teams (European Association of Porcine Health Management-EAPHM, Hellenic Agricultural Academy-HAA, National expert team for ASF surveillance program in Ministry of Rural Development and Food, Scientific Approvals Council of the National Organization for Medicines-EOF) and an evaluator/reviewer of EU research projects (e.g. Horizon) and scientific journals.

In recent years, Vasileios Papatsiros and his research team have focused on participating in research projects and actions to apply their research results to clinical practice and animal production. Their research focuses on the development of methods for the prevention and treatment of productive animal diseases, the study of zoonotic diseases, the prevention of risks in animal nutrition (mycotoxins), as well as innovative research fields such as the effects of climate change on livestock, precision technologies in animal production, the contribution to the study of oxidative stress and "pig xenotransplantation".
